Winners of Cucksey Shield

Koru Tennis is a record setting Winner of this Years Cucksey Shield Tournament.

For a record 5th consecutive year Koru has won the Cucksey Shield. The margin was 5 games with Pakuranga being the runner up. This year Sunnyhills had vowed to take the Shield and with Cockle Bay and Macleans combining it seemed Koru would be hard pressed to retain it. It was but Koru prevailed.

This is the 6th time Koru has won the shield since 1981 as recorded on the present trophy. Apparently, the competition has been around for approximately 40 years and some extra digging will be required to ascertain the winners of the shield prior to this.

Further, Koru's Alex Wong (pictured) has been a member of each winning team which makes it 6 times for Alex and perhaps a further record for any Cucksey Shield competing member. Well done Alex!

Kevin and Gloria McManus and David Brook ran a smooth operation at the Koru Tennis Club ensuring minimal delay in getting players on the court and collating the scores. Teagan's Mum Judy helped with an excellent supply of food to keep the players and supporters energy levels up.  In addition, the work of painting the club, grooming the courts, and the overall presentation of the club rooms gained some very positive feedback from visitors. This effort combined with a number of Koru supporters present all must have helped in the end.

The prize giving at this years hosts Pakuranga Tennis Club was attended by a small group of very happy Koru Tennis players and supporters.

Next Year the hosts are Sunnyhills who we understand are already working on their Plan B strategy!

Congratulations to all the Koru players. Well done!
