Gary Street RIP

As many club members are now aware Gary Street passed away, after a long illness, on Sunday 31 July. Gary was a Life member, ex-Treasurer, primary Fundraiser & Committee member of the Koru (Pakuranga) Tennis club. Those in the Koru and Auckland tennis community may recall that Gary successfully fundraised and project managed our new Court Lights, switched on in 2008.

Gary’s services were acknowledged in the Tennis Auckland “Facilities” & “Administration” awards presented to Koru in 2008 & 2010. In June 2010, he also received a Community Volunteer recognition award from the Manukau City Council.  In addition to revamping our web site, Gary was instrumental in upgrading our club Finance & Administration systems and procedures. He was also the driving force behind numerous other innovative club developments.

On Thursday 4 August, family, friends, work colleagues, ex-servicemen and many old mates attended an uplifting tangi at his final resting place on the Paeahi Marae, Waitoki, Te Aroha.

Our deepest sympathy is extended to Gary’s wife Lydia and their wider families at this time.  May he rest in peace.
