Haere mai! Haere mai! Haere mai!
A warm welcome back to all our regular juniors and their parents and welcome to all our new juniors and parents who have joined Koru Tennis club this 2019/2020 season. It’s great to have lots of new junior members all eager and keen to learn how to play tennis. Koru Junior Coaches Below is a short biography of each of our wonderful coaches: "Hi, my name is Tim Rodgers. I was born in Melbourne, Australia. I started playing tennis when I was very young at Dendy Park in Melbourne. To this day I love playing and watching tennis. My favourite player to watch is Roger Federer." "Kia ora! My name is Haree, current coach assistant at Koru. I've played tennis since age 12. I have coached for 5 years and currently play for our open women’s 1 team." "Hi, I’m Katie Heaven, and I have been playing at Koru Tennis ever since I was 7. Now 12 years later I’m still here and learning more! I have always loved tennis because of the people and the fun it brings to everyday life." This early in the season it is great to see the regular attendance of so many and the skill improvement and progress they are already making. Coaching Times Term 4 2019 Just a reminder of the junior coaching times: Saturdays 9-10am - Juniors under 11 years 10-11am - Intermediate Juniors Tuesdays 4-5pm - Peewee Juniors Coaching 5-6pm - Juniors under 11 6-7pm - Intermediate Juniors Thursdays 4-5.30pm – Junior Interclub practice (Intermediates) 5.30-7pm – Junior Interclub practice (Advanced) There are more opportunities for coaching than ever before so do take advantage and come along if you can. There is an updated court availability sheet in the door entrance for you to see when courts are available for a hit with your children. Private lessons with Tim are also available and can boost their skill level hugely. Talk to Tim if you are interested. The court time for junior training members is dedicated only for them, so just a gentle reminder that the courts are solely for junior coaching on Saturday mornings between 9-11am. Other siblings or parents on the court can be disruptive and a potential hazard. Internal Junior Tournament We are planning a small internal tournament and BBQ towards the end of the term for those more advanced juniors and intermediates who can maintain a short rally. More details and a date to follow. Inter-club Opportunities We are still exploring options for putting in one or two interclub teams after Xmas. Parents – if you want your child to be involved in competitive play, please let Tim know so we can plan ahead. Tennis Racquets We only have a limited number of tennis racquets to borrow so please consider buying your own. Tim is happy to give advice on the right size and where to go. We have a few tennis rackets for sale, some are brand new and at very good prices, do talk to Tim, Raz or Sue if you are interested. Christmas Party Just to give advance notice, the coaching season will close for the Xmas holidays on Saturday 14th December with a shared morning tea and waterslide after tennis from 9-10am for all age groups. More details to follow closer to the time. Senior Interclub and Club Events There is a list of senior interclub games in the club rooms. Feel free to come along and support our Senior Koru teams at any time. Also, from time to time we have club social events we would love you to join. Look out for the posters. Communication We would like to ensure you also receive a copy of the Koru club newsletter, so you are aware of everything going on in the tennis club. We will be checking the database to ensure we have an up to date list but please note the email address we send the newsletter from – admin@korutennis,co,nz and add it to your safe senders list as it can sometimes be sent to junk mail folders. As the sun comes out more (hopefully!) don’t forget your child’s hat and sun cream. Please feel free to come and talk to me or one of the team on Saturday mornings about anything you are concerned about or any suggestions you want to make Thanks everyone, Sue (Junior Club Convener) and Tim (Coach) |
