A closely fought and entertaining finals match took place on Wed 10th April between Jedric & Carissa vs Tania & Roger, with a win for Jedric & Carissa: 7-6 6-4. Junior Prizegiving The junior prizegiving and annual Easter egg hunt took place on Saturday 6th April. Congratulations to all the winners and most improved players and thanks to all those who helped out on the day. See the poster on the windows in the club house for the photos of the prize winners. Final Results junior interclub Many congratulations to the Under 14 Boys Team who WON Section 3. It came down to an exciting finish on their final match against Howick Club. Well done to the players Pranav (who went up a grading during the season), Tristan, Maria and Soham who have been very committed and to their Team Manager, Natasha Brooks. The under 16 Boys Team in Section 1 also had many notable wins this season and although the final results are still pending, they are up in the top three contending for winners of the section. Many Congratulations to the regular players, Oscar, Austin, Leo and Alex. The Beginners team finished the season in a very creditable 6th position in their section. For all these players it was their first taste of competitive tennis, and it was great to see the improvements over the season. We would like to encourage and reward our youngsters next year by providing a weekly player of the day voucher ($10 for Subway or KFC etc) for each team and are looking for a few generous seniors who might like to sponsor a team for either a pre-Xmas or post-Xmas season (approx. 6-7 matches each). If you would be willing to be a sponsor, please get in touch with Sue. Monday Beginner/Intermediate Club Night During the winter months the Monday club night will only operate organised board play on the first Monday of each month, starting on Monday 6th May. Players are welcome however to come down and book courts and organise games between themselves on other Mondays. First Wednesday of the month Club Night sausage sizzles Wednesday 1st May will be the next club night sausage sizzle – bring your gold coins or pay by Eftpos. Senior Weekend Club Day Changeover Senior club day has been changed from Sunday to Saturday afternoons as of Saturday 20th April. Cucksey Shield The Cucksey Shield is an annual tennis competition between the 6 East Auckland clubs. This year Koru will be hosting the number 3 & 4 players on Sunday 28th April. You are very welcome to come and watch some high-quality tennis. Please note there will be no courts available for social play that day. Senior Prizegiving Planning ahead our senior prizegiving night will be held on Saturday 18th May from 7pm onwards - note it in your diaries! All are welcome to attend, finger food will be available and hopefully dancing later in the evening! Sign up on the sheet on the board and let us know you are coming. It’ll be a fun night. Booking Courts We encourage you to book courts over the winter months rather than risking just turning up as there are likely to be coaching groups using the courts more frequently. Fetching balls from the back of the courts We have noticed an increase in people going across the back of the courts to fetch their balls while the rally on that court is still going on. Please wait until play has finished before collecting your ball. This is both courteous and for safety reasons. Membership rules A friendly reminder that we are a members only club and if you would like to play with a friend who is not a member you are requested to pay the $10 visitor fee online to Koru Club. Thank you for your support in upholding our members only status. Hope you’ve been enjoying some tennis in the lovely few weeks of sunshine we’ve been having – long may it last! Welcome to the new junior and adult members who have joined over the last few weeks. We hope you enjoy your tennis at Koru.
Men’s Doubles Championships Last Wednesday saw the final of the Koru Men’s Doubles Championship played following a competitive day on the Sunday. It was a good fight put up by the ‘oldies’ (Steve & Shane) taking the ‘youngsters’ to 3 sets but was eventually won by Jedric and Abhishek ( 6-1, 4-6. 6-2). Congratulations to them. First Wednesday Club Day of the month sausage sizzles The committee are proposing we have a sausage sizzle on the first Wednesday club night of each month. This would be for a gold coin donation. It would be great if people would be willing to help out and join a cooking roster. Do come and talk to one of the committee if you feel able to do that. Updates on different sections Super Seniors Tuesdays remain very popular at Super Seniors with Fridays slightly less busy but lots of opportunities for games. Here’s what they thought about the experience: Austin - Ball-boying for the ASB Classic has been a really rewarding experience for me. I got to meet a lot of top players and watch their matches live on court which has inspired me to improve on my own tennis. Tristan - The ASB classic experience has been a great opportunity to watch what the professionals do and see their techniques.
